The journey began in 1997.
Long before The Celestial Bound had its current name, it began as an idea for a trading card game called Street Soldiers.
The original concept centered on martial arts, strategic combat, character progression, and the creation of a competitive world filled with distinctive fighters.
Early drafts, gameplay concepts, character sketches, and development notes began during this period. Most of those earliest materials were not dated, but they establish 1997 as the beginning of the project.
As life changed, marriage, family, work, and other responsibilities gradually limited the time available to continue developing it.
The project was set aside, but the idea never disappeared.
Over time, Street Soldiers evolved into NanoBreakers.
NanoBreakers first existed as a trading card game rather than a novel. The game retained the focus on martial arts, strategic combat, progression, higher-level Subjects, and transformation through its NanoLevel and Assimilation mechanics.
The surviving documents dated December 2006 represent the earliest dated materials currently identified, not the beginning of the project. By that point, the concept had already been evolving for several years.
The 2006 documents also mark the period when development was paused.
In 2015, the project returned in a completely new form.
NanoBreakers was reimagined as a futuristic martial-arts fantasy novel.
The focus shifted from card-game mechanics toward characters, narrative, setting, conflict, and a larger world.
Although work and returning to school limited the time available to write, the project continued to grow whenever time allowed.
In 2021, I returned to the manuscript and resumed developing NanoBreakers.
The world expanded.
The characters became more complex.
The progression system continued to change.
As the manuscript developed, the story gradually moved away from its earlier futuristic identity and toward something larger, more immersive, and more distinctly its own.
By late 2024, NanoBreakers had transformed significantly enough that it became known as Atomica.
Atomica explored a power structure inspired by atomic concepts.
The world was Atomica.
The Atom contained the Nucleus.
Within the Nucleus, protons, neutrons, and electrons were originally intended to serve as the internal structure through which characters gained and developed power.
Although the concept was internally connected, it became too complex and too closely constrained by real-world atomic terminology to serve the story effectively.
The system was eventually redesigned.
The scientific inspiration remained, but it evolved into the more flexible structure of the Core, Nucleus, and three Orbiters.
At the beginning of 2025, I became fully focused on advancing the novel.
By approximately April 2025, the project finally found the title that reflected what the story had become:
The Celestial Bound.
The change was more than a new name.
Street Soldiers had become NanoBreakers.
NanoBreakers had moved from a trading card game into a novel.
The novel had evolved into Atomica.
Atomica had then transformed into The Celestial Bound.
Each version brought the project closer to its final identity.
Developing The Celestial Bound has always taken place alongside everyday responsibilities and other creative work.
For a time, I divided my focus between writing, creating content for my YouTube channel QueballXGames, and developing my nature channel, CraftbyNature.
Eventually, I made the decision to narrow my creative focus.
Today, that focus is centered on QueballXGames and completing The Celestial Bound.
Book I: Formless is currently in development.
A CREATIVE HISTORY
Seven milestones trace the project from its earliest concept to Book I: Formless.
The original trading-card-game concept begins. Early drafts, sketches, characters, and gameplay ideas are developed.
Street Soldiers evolves into NanoBreakers as a trading card game.
The surviving Nano Breakers Play Mechanics and Subjects and NanoLevels documents are dated December 2006. These documents mark a pause in development, not the origin of the project.
The trading-card-game concept is reimagined as a futuristic martial-arts fantasy novel.
Work resumes on NanoBreakers and the manuscript begins expanding again.
The world, title, and internal power structure evolve around the Atom, Nucleus, and atomic-particle concepts.
The project finds its final title and becomes Book I: Formless.
ARCHIVAL MATERIALS
Original Street Soldiers sketches, NanoBreakers trading-card-game materials, early novel drafts, Atomica development notes, and other surviving documents will be added gradually.
These materials preserve the creative path that eventually led to The Celestial Bound.
Some stories are written in months.
Others spend decades becoming the story they were always meant to tell.
The Celestial Bound is one of them.
